Slavery in Virginia
(Column 2)Summary: Discusses reports from the Petersburg Express and the Charleston Mercury about the number of slave in VA, and the continiuing viability of the institution there. Mercury believes that the Deep South can't "rely" on the border states to resist abolition. Also notes a report in the New York Herald that Northerners are about to make a xconcerted effort to abolitionize VA. SS wants to disbelieve it, but just isn't sure.
