Summary: Letter about the travelers stuck on the train during the 1/18/57 snowstorm. The travelers stayed at his hotel or tavern, and he takes issue with their descriptions of it, and of him. He answers the first writer's complaints about food, service and accomodations one by one.

Slavery in Virginia
(Column 2)
Summary: Discusses reports from the Petersburg Express and the Charleston Mercury about the number of slave in VA, and the continiuing viability of the institution there. Mercury believes that the Deep South can't "rely" on the border states to resist abolition. Also notes a report in the New York Herald that Northerners are about to make a xconcerted effort to abolitionize VA. SS wants to disbelieve it, but just isn't sure. Ultimately, isn't worried baout abolition (see p)
