Senator Douglas' Last Effort

--On Saturday last a Locomotive Engine, constructed under the supervision of Col. O. N. LULL, at the shops of the Cumberland Valley Railroad Company, in this place, was put upon the track and performed admirably. This Locomotive is a substantial and beautiful piece of machinery and is built after the most approved modern plan. It is named "ENTERPRISE" and is intended to be used in running one of the passenger trains on the Cumberland Valley Road. It is a circumstance worthy of praise, and we note it with considerable pride, that this Engine was planned, and entirely completed in all its various parts, in our own place, and by the skill and labor of our own mechanics, and we are assured by competent judges that it will compare favorably for speed, construction and finish with any Locomotive Engine built in the country. The Master Machinist Mr. Ab. Hoil, and all hands engaged in its construction, are deserving of great praise for the very superior workmanship the job displays. At a trial trip, on Saturday last, the "ENTERPRISE," under the management of that clever gentleman and efficient Engineer, Mr. Joseph Miller, worked to perfection and gave entire satisfaction to all who witnessed its performance.
