Summary: Discussion of a meeting of the Democratic State Executive Committee. The committee agreed to a compromise that was designed to unite the Party.
Fulton Democrat

Summary: The Fulton Democrat came out in support of Breckinridge. The Spirit recommends that Democrats not deal with the Douglas-Breckinridge controversy until after the county and state elections because the presidential election is creating friction in the state party.
Republican County Convention

Summary: The Republicans met on August 7th and nominated a ticket. The Spirit believes that "A more unsatisfactory ticket could not have been fixed up if the Convention had had that special object in view."

When 20 fires occurred on one day, the people became suspicious and "several individuals, who proved to be Abolitionists, and who were unable to give any satisfactory reason for their presence in the several communities where they were found" were arrested.

More Treason
