Death of a Physician

Summary: Dr. Edmund G. McGovran died in his residence in Chambersburg. He was buried in the Catholic cemetery. He had practiced for many years in Loudon, Mercersburg, Cumberland County, and Virginia. "He was held in high esteem by all who knew him for his gentlemanly qualities and professional skill."

Found Dead

Summary: John Lininger, "an old German residing in Letterkenny township" was found dead in his bed last Thursday. He was separated from his wife and children and lived alone. All his doors were locked. An inquest was held, and he was found to have died of apoplexy. He left his estate to Wilson Reilly of Chambersburg, but his widow is contesting the will. The matter will most likely go to court.

Monumental Association

Summary: The Franklin County Monumental Association met in the rooms of Judge Rowe. They passed a constitution and by-laws and accepted the resignations of Mrs. L. Brotherton and Mr. William C. Eyster on account of their relocation to Virginia. The association plans to erect a monument in memory of Franklin's dead soldiers. It now has between $800 and $900 and expects $1400 in the next several months.
